The Daily Practice

Leading Through Hard Conversations

The Daily Practice

The frameworks in this book are not a checklist to complete. They are a posture to inhabit. Judge your leadership not by how well you describe these truths, but by what your teams do when you are not in the room.

Every day, ask yourself the five questions:

  1. Am I building or am I blocking?
  2. What did I learn yesterday that invalidates what I believed last week?
  3. What is the most important thing I could make easier for my teams today?
  4. What decision am I avoiding because it is politically uncomfortable?
  5. Who is not in the room for a decision that will affect them?

Every week, review your metrics. Every month, audit your calendar. Every quarter, reassess your strategy. Every year, rewrite your frameworks based on what you have learned.
